DIY: Ramen-restaurant in a glass jar

DIY

One of our favorite DIY projects in our Flow Paper Book for Food Lovers is the Japanese ramen restaurant diorama. Here’s how you make it.

A mini painting that’s also 3D: illustrated by Deborah van der Schaaf, this Japanese ramen restaurant diorama looks just as nice on a kitchen shelf as it does on a cabinet in the living room. And all you need are a few simple ingredients to whip up a pretty pot like this (in no time at all) for your own decorative pleasure.

You will need

  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • A glass jar
  • Flow Paper Book for Food Lovers

Here’s how you make it

  • First, you’ll need to find a suitably sized glass jar. You can test whether you have a good one by cutting out the background. If it fits nicely in the jar, then you can proceed with the next step.
  • Cut out all the illustrations and fold at the white borders.
  • Place a bit of glue on the bottom of each white edge and stick each piece, one by one, onto the inside of the lid. Start at the back and moves forwards, so first glue down the background, then the larger objects and finally the small illustrated items that you want in the front.
  • If the pieces aren’t sticking properly, then try superglue or cut a circle from a blank piece of paper or card that you can place in the lid first.
  • Now screw the glass jar on to the lid.
  • Done!
