If ever there was something soothing to watch it’s painting lessons by Bob Ross. As a student, with lots of time on my hands, I spent so many hours with this man. He’d be painting in his dark studio with his Van Gogh implements; I’d be lounging on the couch, not a brush in sight. And there he was, making these amazing, kitsch landscapes appear as if by magic. And I’d listen to his warm, friendly voice and he’d say stuff like: ‘Let’s give this tree a friend. Everybody needs a friend, don’t you think?’ One of the things he always used to say while painting is: ‘We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.’ Whether that still holds true remains to be seen, but in Bob Ross’ world it makes complete sense. And luckily you can spend time there whenever you want, thanks to YouTube. Posted by: Jocelyn
