If you find yourself in Amsterdam and wanting to see more than the classic city sights, then step off the beaten tourist track and head off in the direction of the capital’s colorful neighborhoods. North, South, East or West, each area has its own unique character, with plenty of shops and markets to peruse, attractions to visit, cafes and restaurants to dine in, and festivals and events to enjoy.
To help you along your way, the city of Amsterdam have created a special Neighborhood Guide that includes insider tips on eleven of its districts. An online version of the guide can be found on their website, where you’ll also find photo collages, an interactive map and—as of May—a video of each neighborhood.
What’s our favorite thing about this guide? Discovering hidden treasures we didn’t know about. And the lovely little illustrations depicting each area, of course.
