L’Épicerie du Pape

We’re gathering the addresses of the best B&Bs, hotels and other overnight locations we can find. All of which, we feel, are great places to go for a weekend or a bit longer. Situated in a picturesque village in Normandy, L’Épicerie du Pape is an authentic property with two B&B guestrooms and a cozy cottage in the garden.

What makes L’Épicerie du Pape a great place to stay?
Located in the former village shop, L’Épicerie du Pape has been renovated by its owner Karine into a beautiful B&B, with an interior that is a mix of antiques, flea market finds, vintage and collectibles. There are plenty of accessories dotted around, and the ground floor room even has a cast iron bath. In the garden, there’s a Scandinavian-inspired red wooden cottage. Guests can relax in a communal living room that boasts a fireplace, and make use of a kitchen in a conservatory.

What’s for breakfast?
Breakfast is both savory and sweet, fresh and healthy, and includes fruit, croissants, homemade jams, organic fruit juice and yoghurt. All of which can be enjoyed on the veranda.

Our tip
Many of the treasures in the B&B come from flea markets and nearby thrift stores. Ask your hostess Karine about her favorites and spend a day browsing and rummaging through the delights they have on offer, be they old or new.

Good food
Drive to Lyons-la-Forêt, a charming medieval village with half-timbered buildings and colorful facades. Visit one of the tea houses to enjoy sweet French treats.
