Waldhaus in Austria

We’re gathering the addresses of the best B&Bs, hotels and other overnight locations we can find. All of which, we feel, are great places to go for a weekend or a bit longer. Located halfway up a mountain in the Austrian Alps, Waldhaus is a lovely, comfortable place that is great to visit both during the winter and the summer months.

What makes Waldhaus a great place to stay?
Going on holiday and staying in an apartment that feels just like home is definitely something special. The comfortable interior comprises a mix of old and new, with natural hues, warm fabrics, wood, and antlers on the wall to boot. Oh, and of course: those irresistible Austrian duvets.

What’s for breakfast?
Breakfast is made in the fully-equipped kitchen. Head down the mountain in the morning to the bakery in the village for fresh Kaiserbrötchen (Kaiser rolls).

Our Tip
Sonnenkopf Im Wald has been named the top ski resort for families, making it an ideal destination choice for your winter sports holiday. But if you’re a non-skier, don’t worry: you can immerse yourself in the magical white environment around you thanks to the beautifully prepared winter walking paths.

Good food
There are several restaurants – lovely authentic Austrian ones, with waitresses in dirndls – located in the village below. Even better is to eat in one of the Berghütte (mountain huts) where you can indulge in traditional dishes such as Käspressknödel (fried cheese dumplings) and regional Käse- and Speckplatte (cheese and ham plates).

Prices start at € 500 per week.
