Doing absolutely nothing for ten minutes: when was the last time you did this? No TV; no texting; no emailing; no scrolling on Instagram; no reading the newspaper; no chatting; not even eating. Ten minutes of absolutely nothing at all…
Too busy
There are so many stimuli and things that distract us today that we live less in the now than we might want. And according to Andy Puddicombe, founder of the meditation app Headspace, this causes feelings of stress or anxiety. In his TED Talk about meditation, All it takes is 10 mindful minutes, he says the following about it: “The mind whizzes away like a washing machine going round and round… lots of difficult, confusing emotions, and we don’t really know how to deal with that. And the sad fact is that we are so distracted that we’re no longer present in the world in which we live.”
Doing nothing for ten minutes
Doing nothing more often results in our mind feeling emptier or decluttered more often. And meditation can help there. According to Puddicombe, “All you need to do is to take 10 minutes out a day to step back, to familiarize yourself with the present moment so that you get to experience a greater sense of focus, calm and clarity in your life.” Find out exactly how by watching Puddicombe’s TED Talk.
